35

A Black trans woman finds herself on a harrowing journey to her 36th birthday.

The intention behind 35 was to tell a story about a seemingly mundane journey that symbolized something indicative of the systems that hold us back and make and make what could be simple tasks overbearingly difficult. 35 uses surrealism to create a portrayal of the violence that we, as a society, create for transwomen that has resulted in their low-life expectancy of 35. As our protagonist navigates this absurd world hellbent on preventing her from getting to 36, we examine the social issues.

This project helped me develop my collaborative skills working with a writer/director as we developed the idea and story.
